On July 1, 2025, Eastern Connecticut Savings Bank (ESB) joined forces with GSB in an exciting merger that paves the way for both banks to transition into a new brand: Ascend Bank. This change reflects a shared commitment to building a stronger, more capable community bank—without losing the personalized service and deep local roots you’ve come to rely on.

Our Name
Our name is now Eastern Connecticut Savings Bank, A Division of Ascend Bank on all signage and documents.
Our Branches & ATMs
You can use Ascend Bank ATMs with your current debit card without ATM fees.You will not yet be able to conduct in-person transactions at Ascend Bank branches until September 2.

Friday, Aug 29 (3PM) | ECSB branches & ATMs, as well as online/mobile banking and our customer care center will be closed. These will all reopen Tuesday morning. |
Tuesday, Sep 2 (9AM) | Ascend Bank online and mobile banking will be ready to use. |
Tuesday, Sep 2 (9AM) | All branches reopen as Ascend Bank. New debit cards can be activated. Support is available. |

This is when the full transition to Ascend Bank takes effect. At that time, you will see:
Website
A new website address: Ascend.bank
Debit Cards
A new Ascend Bank Visa® debit card (personal, business or HSA) will replace your ECSB Mastercard. You’ll receive these in August with instructions on how to activate. The card WILL need to be activated within 30 days. Your ECSB card will no longer work as of September 2nd.
Digital Banking
A new online and mobile banking platform — including a redesigned Ascend Bank app. Personal Online Banking and Business Online Banking will need to be set up through Ascend.bank at login. You will be provided credentials. Please see the Online & Mobile Banking section for details.
